Margaret Moses

Margaret Moses, daughter of the late Julius Johnson, Sr., and the late Julia Washington Johnson was born in Timmonsville, South Carolina on October 5, 1939. She departed this life on Saturday, November 6, 2021 in McLeod Regional Medical Center at 5:45pm after a long illness.

She attended the public schools of Florence County. Margaret was the oldest grandchild of Heyward Washington. She got married at an early age. She was only 13 years old. Margaret changed her name from Margaree to Margaret when she was young. After she got married most of her life was spent in Florida.

Margaret was married to the late Elijah Moses of Florence, South Carolina. He departed this life on February 21, 1998. They didn't have any children.

Margaret was a faithful member of New Covenant Deliverance Cathedral in Fort Lauderdale, Florida under the leadership of Reverend Dr. Ralph Grissett and First Lady Ida Grissett. Margaret served on the Usher Board for many years. She also loved to sing, she sung on the choir until her health declined.

She worked as a grandmother at Deerfield Park Elementary School in Florida. She was known as Grandma Moses to the children.

Margaret was preceded in death by her father, Julius Johnson, Sr.; mother, Julia Washington Johnson; a sister, Frances Mae Dargan; and a brother, Julius Johnson, Jr.

She is survived by three brothers, Heyward (Patricia) Johnson, Sr. of Florence, South Carolina, John Henry Johnson, Sr. of Florence, South Carolina and Moses Bernard (Daisy) Johnson of Darlington, South Carolina; two sisters, Annie Lois (John) Myers and Martha Dean (Lonnie) Graham of Florence South Carolina; six aunts, Rachel W. Mansfield, Sarah M. Fisher, Mary W. Parker, Cassie (Randy) Ruger, Barbara Washington and Mildred Washington; three uncles, Reverend James C. (Viola) Washington, Booker T. Washington, and Reverend George (Garcia) Washington; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Margaret, we will always remember what you loved to say, "Thank God for Life."
